Item :	AMERICAN REVOLUTIONARY WAR DRAGOON OFFICER'S SABER

Description :

This is an original, American Revolutionary War Dragoon Officer's Saber with its original leather scabbard. The saber has a spiral carved bone grip and a simple brass guard. It is 38 1/2 inches long overall with a deeply curved 33 1/8 inch blade. The blade has a single fuller running 27 1/2 inches and the point has a 6 inch false edge on top. The sword is in very good condition. The blade has a dark pewter patina with some areas of dark brown. The brass guard has a dark bronze patina. The bone grip has darkened in the spiral grooves. There a couple of hairline cracks running along its length. Original Revolutionary War era scabbards are quite scarce. This saber retains its scabbard. There is a separation in the leather about 10 inches from the scabbard tip, leaving the scabbard in two pieces. The suspension rings are mounted on the throat and a metal strap at the midpoint of the scabbard. The throat is made of sheet brass and the middle strap and end cap are tin. Aside from the break, the remaining leather is in very good condition. There is some surface cracking. The stitched seam is in good condition. True American swords of the Revolution are scarce, especially with their scabbards. Stock no. 24060
