RARE TWO-TRIGGER FRANK WESSON .22 RIFLE
Description :
Here is an original, Second Type, Two-Trigger Frank Wesson Rifle in the rare .22 rimfire chambering. The second type rifles were manufactured from about 1863 to about 1876. These rifles featured an integral forged rounded iron frame and forend. The front trigger of the "Two-trigger" design operates the tip-up barrel. The barrel travel is limited by a slotted link in a cut on the left side of the barrel. A manually operated sliding case ejector is located on the right side of the barrel. The rear trigger actually fires the rifle. This rifle is in very good condition, with an overall smooth brown patina. The barrel retains much of its finish, but the blue itself has turned brown. The frame and butt plate have a splotchy brown patina with some steel color showing. The rifle's mechanics work very well. The 24" heavy octagon barrel has a fair bore. There is some erosion toward the breech end and some light pitting visible. There is a dovetail cut in the upper tang, presumably for a tang sight of some type which is no longer present. The stock is in very good condition with just a few small dings from use. This is an interesting and unusual rifle and quite scarce in the .22 rimfire chambering. Stock no. 23398
