LEE ENFIELD SHORT .22 MK.II NAVAL TRAINING RIFLE
Description :
Here is a British Mk.II Lee-Metford Rifle manufactured at Sparkbrook Royal Ordnance Factory in 1895. The rifle was converted for the British Navy to a Short .22 LR Mk.II Training Rifle by Enfield in 1912. The rifle is in fine condition with more than 90% of its blued finish remaining. I do not know if this is the original blue or if it was redone when the rifle was converted by Enfield in 1912. There is some finish wear on the trigger guard and on the edges of the magazine. The rifle has excellent mechanics. The bore had some light pitting in a couple places that has been polished. Overall the bore is very good. The stock is in good condition with a good number of small dings and scratches from use. There are two small cracks running back from the receiver socket; one on either side near the top of the wrist. The rifle is nicely marked with the original Sparkbrook markings on the right side of the socket and the Enfield conversion markings on the left. The rifle retains the volley sights. The magazine internals and the cut-off have been removed. This allows the magazine to be used to store empty cases. The Naval "N" is also stamped on the left side of the socket. This is a very nice example of an early British .22 Trainer. Stock no. 23393
