Item No.: 8756 Price : SOLD
Item : MAUSER FACTORY REWORKED 9MM BROOMHANDLE C96 PISTOL
Description :
Here is a Mauser C96 Broomhandle pistol that started life as a M1916 Prussian "Red 9" contract gun chambered for the 9mm Parabellum cartridge. This pistol was reworked by Mauser after World War I for commercial sale. The 1919 Treaty of Versailles imposed restrictions on pistol barrel lengths and calibers on German arms. Mauser would rebuild military C96 pistols to be compliant with the new restrictions. These compliant pistols were marked "1920". They had shortened barrels, the tangent sights were replaced with fixed sights, and they were chambered for cartridges smaller than 9mm. This pistol is not compliant, so it has not been marked with the 1920 designation. It has a shortened barrel that is just 3 3/8" long, but it remains chambered for the 9mm Parabellum cartridge and it retains the tangent sight. The pistol is all matching except the grips. They are standard grips without the Red 9 and their numbers do not match the gun. The pistol is in beautiful, very fine condition. It retains 98% of its factory reblue with some holster wear on the base of the magazine on the floor plate. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The grips are very fine as well with just a couple of light scratches from use. A Mauser reworked C96 in 9mm that still has the tangent sight is a rarely encountered gun. I have not encountered another with a barrel this short. Stock no. 23212
