Item No.: 8710 Price : $2,350.00
Description :
This is an original, U.S. Spencer Model 1865 Cavalry Carbine chambered for the .50 caliber rimfire cartridge. This is an early M1865 with a serial number of just three digits (4xx). It is not fitted with the Stabler cut-off. This was a standard carbine of the early, post Civil War/Indian War period. This carbine is in very good condition. There are traces of its blued finish remaining in protected crevices. The majority of the metal has a mottled brown and steel gray patina. The lever screw appears to have been replaced and the area of the receiver around this screw has signs of being heated. This was probably done to get the old screw removed. The butt plate has a rough, dark brown patina. The mechanism and lock work very well. The bore is actually quite good. There are a few tiny pits, but the bore is mostly shiny with strong rifling. The magazine tube is complete with spring and plunger. The stock is in good shape with just a couple of small dents and dings from use. There is an old chip on the top of the butt stock where it meets the receiver. There is the faint remnant of an oval Inspector's cartouche on the left wrist just behind the sling bar. Included is an original, period carbine sling swivel. This was attached to a wide leather strap that could be worn over the shoulder allowing the carbine to hang at your side. The snap ring attaches to the saddle ring on the gun. It is in fine condition with a bright steel finish. This is a nice example of an early Indian War Spencer. Stock no. 22999
