Description :

This is an original, Pre-war Winchester Model 70 Bolt action rifle made in 1936, the first year of production. This is only the 423rd Model 70 to come off the assembly line. It is chambered for the .30 Government '06 (.30-06) cartridge. The rifle is in very fine condition, retaining more than 95% of its original factory blued finish. There is a bit of finish wear at the muzzle and just on the high points of the receiver. There are a few very faint speckles of patina on the receiver and barrel. The body of the bolt remains bright. The rifle has an excellent bore and mechanics. The checkered walnut stock is very fine as well, with just a tiny ding or two from use. There is one tiny chip or dent on the left butt edge of the pistol grip. The checkered steel butt plate is particularly nice. Alas, the rear receiver ring has been drilled and tapped for a scope mount base. It is every bit as well done as the factory holes on the front of the receiver and definitely not a hack job. This is a superb model 70. You may find one that is a little better conditionwise, but you will be hard pressed to find an earlier example. Stock no. 23029
