Description :
This is an original, German Percussion Schuetzen Target Rifle dating to the 19th century. This is a handsome rifle with a 29 1/2" octagon barrel that measures 1" across the flats. It is .58 caliber with 8 groove rifling. The rifle has an ornate carved wooden pistol grip mounted just behind the iron trigger guard. The butt is wide and heavy with a pronounced beaver tail cheek rest. The rifle has an adjustable peep sight mounted on the tang, an adjustable rear sight on the barrel, and an adjustable front sight. It is also fitted with double lever, double set triggers. The top flat of the barrel is marked "I. KLINGENSCHMIDT IN SCHEINFELD". The rifle is in fine condition with about 70% of the brown finish remaining on the barrel. The breech is blued and retains 90% of its color. The lock, butt plate, and trigger guard have a speckled brown and pewter patina. The lock and triggers work perfectly. The bore on this rifle is excellent with sharp, shiny rifling. The stock is very good with a scattering of smal dings and scratches from use. There is a heavier dent on the right side just behind the entry thimble. There are a few small chips along the leading edge of the cheek rest. The middle ramrod pipe is missing, but this would be an easy fix, as they are just simple iron tubes. The rear barrel sight is loose in the dovetail and needs a little peening. With its great bore and mechanics, this would probably make a great shooter. Stock no. 22897
