REMINGTON NEW MODEL POLICE REVOLVER, CARTRIDGE CONVERSION
Description :
Here is an original, Remington Factory Conversion New Model Police Revolver chambered for the .38 Rimfire cartridge. Designed to compete with the Colt Model 1862 Police and the Colt Pocket Navy, these revolvers were produced from 1865-1873. After this, many were factory converted to fire metallic cartridges. It is believed that all were .38 rimfire. This is a 5-shot revolver with a 3 1/2" barrel. It is in antique good condition. Originally nickel plated, it now retains about 30% of this finish. The cylinder retains the most finish with about 60% remaining. There is light surface pitting in some areas and a number of heavy dings on the right side of the frame extending onto the barrel. The mechanics work well. The bore is dark, but mostly smooth with strong rifling. The grips are very good with just a few tiny dings from use. The two-piece cylinder has matching numbers on the cylinder and on the back plate. That number does not match the serial number of the gun and I am not certain that it would, as these were produced later than the pistols themselves. This is a neat little gun and a good example of an Old West "Belly Gun". Stock no. 82880
