COLT MODEL 1862 POLICE REVOLVER, 1861 MFG.

This is an original, Colt Model 1862 Police Revolver manufactured in the first year of production, 1861. It is a 5-shot, percussion, .36 caliber pocket revolver with a 4 1/2" round barrel and a creeping loading lever. It had a rebated and half fluted cylinder. Approximately 32,000 had been produced by the war's end. This revolver is in fair to good condition. It is complete and all original. It is all matching except for the wedge which is mismatched. It has a trace of its factory blued finish remaining in the flutes of the cylinders. The remainder of the gun has significant pitting that has been cleaned to a silvery patina. The trigger guard retains about 50% of its silver plating. The back strap has no silver remaining. The mechanics work fairly well. The bore is dark and pitted. The grips are in good condition. There is a small gouge on the right grip that has been filled. The M1862 Police is considered by many to be the best looking of all the percussion Colts. Stock no. 22876
