FRENCH MODEL 1770 GENDARMERIE FLINTLOCK PISTOL

This is a French Model 1770 "Gendarmerie" (Police) Flintlock Pistol manufactured in the last quarter of the 1700's. It is a small pocket pistol with a 5" barrel of about .60 caliber. The pistol is in very good condition. It has been heavily cleaned in the manner used by European museums. It has a scattering of overall surface pitting that has been polished mirror bright. This leaves a shiny surface speckled with brown. The lock and mechanics work well. The bore is dark and rusty. The stock is in very good condition with just a few small dings from use. There are a couple of tiny chips along the edges of inlaid parts. This is a nice little pistol that is over 200 years old. Stock no. 22864
