COLT LONDON MODEL 1851 NAVY REVOLVER
Description :
This is an original London Colt Model 1851 Navy .36 Caliber Percussion Revolver manufactured ca. 1856. Earning its name from the Naval battle scene engraved on the cylinder, the '51 Navy was Colt's primary medium caliber revolver in the percussion era. All of the London Colt Model 1851 revolvers were manufactured prior to the Civil War, between 1853 and 1857. This is a Second Model London Navy with steel grip straps. It has British proofs in a number of locations. This revolver is in very good condition. It is all matching except the wedge which has a different number. The barrel and lever have about 25% of their original factory blued finish remaining, mostly on the more protected bottom three flats of the barrel. The cylinder and frame have no finish remaining. There are a number of small hammer marks on the cylinder. The action works well. The gun has a very good bore, with a few tiny pits, but strong rifling throughout. The grips are in very good condition with much of their original varnished finish remaining. There is a small chip on the toe of the left grip scale. This is a good solid London Navy, a must have for any Colt Navy collector. Stock no. 22859
