Item No.: 8599 Price : SOLD
Item : FINE, AS BUILT, WWII, SPRINGFIELD M-1 GARAND RIFLE
Description :
This is an original, WWII U.S. M-1 Garand Rifle manufactured by Springfield Armory in August of 1944. It is chambered for the .30-06 Government cartridge. The rifle retains all WWII parts with no evidence of a post-war rebuild. The rifle has the Battle Bar rear sight and an uncut op rod. All parts are of correct Springfield manufacture. The stock has a crisp "S. A." over "G.A.W." inspector's cartouche. This is the correct acceptance marking of Colonel George A. Woody, inspector at Springfield Armory from July, 1943 to October, 1944. The barrel is dated "8-44". The rifle is in very fine condition. It retains more than 95% of its armory parkerized finish. There is a little overall light wear, from honest use. The butt plate shows more significant wear, with about 60% of its finish remaining. The mechanics are excellent. The barrel gauges "1.5" at the muzzle and "1" at the throat. The bore is very fine, shiny with strong rifling. The stock is in very fine condition, with just a few tiny dings and scratches from use. The cartouche is strong, as is the "P" firing proof on the wrist. The rifle is fitted with an original. U.S. Model 1907 leather sling. The sling is unmarked. General George Patton called the M-1 "The Greatest Battle Implement Ever Devised". This is a great wartime example. Stock no. 22809
