CIVIL WAR MANHATTAN .36 CALIBER NAVY REVOLVER
Description :
This is an original, Civil War Manhattan "Navy Type" Revolver in its original holster. The Manhattan was a major competitor of the Colt revolver, and thousands were purchased and carried during the Civil War. This is a five-shot Series III revolver with a 6 1/2" barrel. It is one of the Series III revolvers fitted with the spring plate mounted on the face of the recoil shield. This was discontinued on the Series III revolvers and then later became standard on the series IV. This plate was intended to prevent the revolver from chain firing. This revolver is in very good condition. It is complete and all matching, including the wedge. The revolver has a smooth brown patina, with traces of blued finish remaining in protected areas. Traces of the case colors remain on the frame, with the majority having faded to a blue/gray patina. The brass grip straps and trigger guard retain about 20% of their silver plating. Mechanically, the revolver functions well. The barrel wedge is quite loose and this allows the barrel to be loose as well. The roll engraved oval panels are visible on the cylinder and the barrel markings are clear. This is a nice complete, Manhattan Navy revolver. Stock no. 22807
