WWI, EDDYSTONE U.S. MODEL 1917 SERVICE RIFLE
Description :
This is an original, WWI, U.S. Model 1917 Service Rifle produced by Eddystone in 1918. The U.S. Model 1917 was based on the British P-14 Rifle being produced under contract by Winchester, Remington, and Eddystone. The British contracts ended just as America entered WWI. Rather than retool to make the Model 1903, it was decided to alter the P-14 to accept the U.S. .30-06 Government cartridge and the M1917 Rifle was born. Over 2.5 million were produced before the war's end. The M1917 actually saw more service in the war than the '03 Springfield. Alvin York won his Congressional Medal of Honor with a Model 1917 Rifle. This rifle is mostly Eddystone with a few Remington parts. The stock is Remington marked. The rifle is in fine condition. It retains about 60-70% of its factory blued finish with some overall wear. The gun has excellent mechanics. The bore is a little dark and frosty, but has strong rifling along its length. The stock is very good, with the usual small dings and scratches from use. It has no markings except for the "R" on the nose. The stacking swivel is missing. The rifle is fitted with a very fine, original, WWI Kerr "No-Buckle" sling. Stock no. 22733
