Item :	ANTIQUE WEBLEY "WG" ARMY MODEL .455 REVOLVER

This is an original, P. Webley & Son "WG" Army Model Double Action Revolver manufactured prior to 1897. The "WG" stood for Webley-Government. The Webley "WG" was a large framed, top break commercial revolver chambered for the early .455/476 cartridge, also known as the .476 Enfield. Produced from 1885 into the early 1900's, they were a favored arm of British Officers who purchased their own revolvers. Since Webley merged with W.C. Scott in 1897 to become Webley & Scott, we can date this example prior to that year. Webley sent these revolvers to distributors, outfitters, and dealers all over the world. This particular revolver was shipped to and sold by J.F. King of Durban, South Africa. Given its early manufacture, this is a revolver that could easily have served in the Second Boer War. The gun is in fine condition with about 75% of its factory blued finish remaining. There is some overall finish wear, mostly holster wear on the high points of the barrel, frame, and cylinder. There is a significant drag line on the cylinder. The bore, chambers, and mechanics are excellent. The chamfers at the mouth of each chamber are for the thin rimmed .455/476 cartridge. This cartridge was only used for a very short time. The grips are very good with the normal small dings and scratches from use. There is an old repair to the lefty grip. The toe of the grip chipped at one time and was glued back into place. This is a very nice example of a stalwart of the British Empire. Stock no. 22717
