Item :	CIVIL WAR REMINGTON MODEL 1863 "ZOUAVE" RIFLE

This is an original, Civil War, Remington Model 1863 Percussion Contract Rifle manufactured in 1863. Known as the "Zouave", the Model 1863 Remington is considered to be one of the best made and designed military arms of the Civil War. Approximately 12,501 were produced from 1862-1865, with all delivered in 1865. The Zouave was a handsome weapon, with a .58 caliber, 33" blued barrel and brass stock furniture with a patchbox. This rifle is in fine condition. The barrel retains about 95% of its original factory blued finish. There is a light speckling of patina, with some light pitting around the bolster from the corrosive percussion caps. The case colors of the lock have faded to a mottled gray and brown. The brass furniture has a nice golden bronze patina. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore with strong rifling along its length. The stock is in fine condition with the usual small dings and dents from use. Both inspector's cartouches remain on the left flat of the stock. The upper cartouche was lightly struck and is faint. The spare nipple (percussion cone) remains in the patchbox. The included leather sling is a replica of the original. With its great bore and mechanics, this should be a good shooting rifle.
