Here is an original, Colt Single Action Army Revolver manufactured in 1887 and chambered for the .38-40 cartridge (.38 WCF). This is 7 1/2" barreled revolver with one-piece walnut grips, a classic "Old West" six-shooter. This revolver comes with a Colt factory letter showing that the revolver was shipped on May 26, 1887 to the famous western outfitter, J.P. Lower and Sons in Denver, Colorado. This is a true "Cowboy Gun". The revolver is in very good condition. There are just traces of blue remaining on the ejector housing and protected nooks and crannies. The remainder of the gun has a smooth brown finish. The case colored frame has faded to a dark brown-gray. The bore and chambers are dark, but mostly smooth, with strong rifling visible in the bore. The mechanics need a little tweaking. The gun no longer has a half-cock position, transitioning from the first click right back to full cock. The cylinder advances and the hammer drops correctly when the trigger is pulled. The grips are worn. The right grip panel appears to be charred, as if exposed to a fire. It has been worn smooth again from years of handling. The gun comes with the original factory letter and a photo of J.P Lower's establishment. This is a great old cowboy gun from the American West.
