Here is an original, .41 Rimfire No.1 Deringer, made by the Moore's Patent Firearms Co. of Brooklyn, New York. These were produced under the Moore's name from 1860-1865. From 1865-1870, they were produced under the National Arms Co. name. Moore produced about 3,000 of these and National another 3,000. This pistol has serial number 2762. The National Arms Co. was purchased by Colt in 1870. Colt actually produced some of these under the Colt name with some design improvements. The Moore No.1 was the very first of the large caliber metallic cartridge deringer pistols. It was of all metal construction, with an iron barrel and a silver plated brass frame. This is a Moore's marked deringer produced during the Civil War. It is in fine condition with about 40% of the factory blued finish remaining on the 2 1/2" barrel. The scroll engraved brass frame retains about 20% of its silver plate. The remaining silver has turned black with tarnish. The gun has excellent mechanics. The bore is dark with some pitting. The Moore No.1 is an essential piece for the deringer collector. Stock no. 22309
