FINE, CIVIL WAR MAYNARD CAVALRY CARBINE
Description :
This is an original, Civil War 2nd Model Maynard Cavalry Carbine manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Also known as the Model 1863, the Maynard was a breech loading, percussion arm of .50 caliber. About 20,202 2nd Model Maynard Carbines were produced from 1863-1865. Cavalry units known to have been issued the Maynard were the 9th and 11th Indiana and the 11th Tennessee. This carbine is in very good to fine condition. The barrel is speckled with a little corrosion, but retains more than 90% of its factory blued finish. The lever has a smooth brown patina. The butt plate has a rougher dark brown patina. The case colors of the frame have turned a blue black color. The side plate has little finish with a dark gray pewter patina. The action locks up tightly with excellent mechanics. The bore is very good. There is a patch of rust just ahead of the chamber, with the remainder of the bore bright and shiny. It should shoot pretty well. The stock is fine. There are a number of small dings and scratches from use. The cartouches remain visible. The Maynard was one of the most accurate carbines of the war. Stock no. 22027
