Item No.: 8367 Price : SOLD
Description :
Here is an original, U.S. M1922 Training Rifle manufactured at Springfield Armory in late 1935 or early 1936. The Springfield Armory Barrel is dated "11-35". Chambered for the .22 Long Rifle cartridge, this rifle was originally built as the M1 variant. It was armory updated to the M2 variant. It has an M2 bolt assembly, a "B" suffix has been added to the serial number, and a second "1" stamped after the M1 on the receiver ring. In addition, there is a crisp "S A" rebuild cartouche on the left side of the butt stock. These are the correct markings for a M1922 M1 rebuilt to the M1922 M2 configuration. This rifle was sold through the Director of Civilian Marksmanship (DCM) in the late '30s. M1922 Rifles sold through the DCM in this era were drilled and tapped for scope mounting blocks. The receiver ring and barrel were drilled with the pairs of holes 7.2" apart center to center. This is not a later modification, it is how they came from the DCM! This rifle is in very fine condition. It retains nearly all of its dark parkerized finish. There are a couple of very small scratches on the left side of the barrel. The finish is smooth with no sign of sand blasting for a re-finish. The bolt is finished armory bright and remains that way. The bolt is numbered to the gun with an etched serial number. The Lyman 48C Receiver Sight has developed a tiny bit of patina on the elevation slide which is normally bright. The bore and mechanics are excellent on this rifle. The stock is excellent as well, with just a couple of tiny dings from storage. It is marked with the Springfield Armory cartouche and a crisp "P" proof on the wrist. The rifle comes with two original magazines, both in very fine condition. This is a superb example of the Springfield M1922 Rifle. Stock no. 22030
