Item No.: 8164 Price : $5,475.00
Item : REVOLUTIONARY WAR CHARLEVILLE MUSKET, REGIMENTALLY MARKED
Description :
This is an original, Revolutionary War French Model 1763 Charleville Musket of .69 caliber. The musket is surcharged on the left side of the wrist with "39.REGt". There is a stamped oval with the letters "CT" and also an "M" stamped on the top of the barrel which may indicate a state affiliation. The M1763 Charleville was used in large numbers by fledgling United States troops during the Revolution. It became the true workhorse of the Revolution and served as the model for the first musket produced by the United States Armories, which was the U.S. Model 1795 musket. This musket is in antique good condition. The metal surfaces are covered uniformly with a dark brown patina, mostly smooth, but with some areas of rough texture. There is some active rusting on the lock around the pan. The lock works well, but the top jaw and screw of the cock are missing. The lock plate is clearly marked "Charleville". The bore is dark and pitted. The ramrod is probably a replacement and is not full length. The lower third is missing, apparently rusted off. The stock is complete and in good condition, with a number of small dings and scratches from long years of use. In addition to the Regimental marking, there are a couple of sets of initials scratched into the left side of the butt. This is a great old Revolutionary Warhorse. Muskets of the Revolution are increasingly hard to find. Stock no. 21429
