CIVIL WAR, REMINGTON NEW MODEL ARMY REVOLVER
Description :
This is an original Remington New Model Army .44 Caliber Percussion Revolver. Approximately 122,000 of these were produced between 1863 and 1875. About 90,000 had been manufactured by wars end. This revolver's 77,xxx serial number places it squarely in the wartime production guns. The Remington was the 2nd most carried revolver of the war. With its solid frame and back strap, it was also the strongest, and many thought the Remington to be superior to the Colt. This revolver is in good condition. It has no finish remaining, with a pewter gray patina overall. There is some significant pitting on the left side of the barrel, top strap, and one side of the cylinder. The brass trigger guard has a dark, almost black patina on the bow of the guard. The mechanics work well and the bore is very good. There are a few speckles of corrosion, but the rifling is strong. The grips are very good with no chips or cracks. There is a good cartouche on the left grip panel. There are a few dings and scratches from use. The rugged Remington served with distinction during the Civil War and then many went West with the expanding frontier. Stock no. 21435
