Item No.: 8144 Price : $1,895.00
Description :
This is an original, Civil War Manhattan "Navy Type" Revolver in its original holster. The Manhattan was a major competitor of the Colt revolver, and thousands were purchased and carried during the Civil War. This revolver is stamped with the markings of Benjamin Kittredge & Company of Cincinnati, Oh. Kittredge & Co. was a leading supplier of arms and equipment to the Union army during the Civil War. Officers and soldiers could privately purchase pistols, swords, and equipment to use in the field. Kittredge marked many of the items that they supplied, as is the case with this Manhattan revolver. This is a series III Manhattan with a spring plate mounted on the face of the recoil shield. The revolver is in good condition. There is 5-10% of the blued finish remaining, mostly on the barrel flats. The majority of the finish is a steel gray. The brass trigger guard and back strap have a nice bronze patina. The action works pretty well, but the spring plate on the recoil shield is cracked at the mounting screw and bends out towards the cylinder. The bore is dark but has strong rifling along its length. The grips are in good shape with just a few tiny dings from use. The gun is all matching including the wedge. The loading lever is not numbered. The original leather flap holster is soft calf skin lined with a thin red dyed leather. The holster is in fair condition. The toe plug is missing. The side seam was resewn on at least one occasion and is beginning to separate again. It is still a nice example of an early holster. Stock no. 21434
