1816 DATED, HARPER'S FERRY, U.S. MODEL 1803 RIFLE

Description :
This is an original, U.S. Model 1803 Flintlock Rifle manufactured at Harper's Ferry Armory, Virginia in 1816. It is a half stock, .54 caliber rifle, which fired a patched round ball. The Model 1803 is an iconic American firearm. It is the only flintlock rifle produced at either of the national armories. It is also one of the best looking American arms, with heavy Kentucky rifle influence. The M1803 saw extensive service in the War of 1812. This one is in antique good condition. The 36" barrel and lock show significant pitting, with an overall dark brown patina. The bore is in its original .54 caliber. It is lightly pitted, but the original rifling remains strong. The stock is quite nice, with just a few tiny dings from use. The rifle has probably been re-converted to flintlock. The lock has had some restoration done, but still needs a little tweaking. It cocks, but does not strike the frizzen with any force. The Model 1803 rifle is an essential arm to any collector of U.S. Martial long guns.#20599
