1ST MODEL JOSLYN CAVALRY CARBINE

This is an original, Civil War, Joslyn Model 1862 Cavalry Carbine chambered for the .52 Rimfire cartridge. The Joslyn Fire Arms Company of Stonington, Ct. produced about 16,500 total carbines during the war. The Joslyn was widely used throughout the war. Union cavalry regiments known to have been issued the Joslyn were the 4th and 8th Indiana, the 19th New York, the 13th Tennessee, the 9th Pennsylvania, the 3rd West Virginia, the 2nd Wisconsin, the 1st Nebraska, the 1st Nevada, and the 11th Ohio. This Joslyn is in very good condition. The barrel retains about 70% of its factory blued finish, with the remainder beginning to turn brown. The lock and hammer have a smooth brown patina. The brass furniture has a dark bronze patina. The bore is dark, with some pitting, but strong rifling visible. The mechanics work very well. The stock is an even dark brown with a few dings from use and one big chunk of wood missing on the left side of the barrel tang. The Joslyn was pretty widely used and this is a nice example.
