FINE LG & Y US MODEL 1861 "SPECIAL MODEL" RIFLE MUSKET

.58 Caliber Percussion US Military Long Arm. Dated 1863 on lock and barrel. Excellent bore and mechanics. Fine barrel proofs and date. Crisp lock markings including the small eagle on the drum bolster. Fine bright metal just beginning to dull shows the arm has been well cared for. Complete with sling swivels and original straight ram rod. Excellent oil finished stock with clear cartouche at the left flat. "LNW" stamped on the butt plate and comb forward of the tang. I have no clue what this stands for. Lamson, Goodnow and Yale along with Colt and Amoskeag produced this "Improved" versions of the Model 1861 Springfield under US Contracts early in the Civil War. Fine.
