FINE 1862 DATED SPRINGFIELD US MODEL 1861 RIFLE MUSKET

.58 Caliber Percussion US Martial Long Arm. "The Standard" Union Army Shoulder Arm of The Civil War. Fine 1862 dated lock. Crisp Eagle and Springfield markings. Tiny bit of salt and peppering on hammer only. Fine bright barrel with crisp "1862" date and proofs. Top flat of barrel has exactly 58 tiny little "dots" where it looks like somebody tapped on it with a nail. It's not pitting. It does not detract because this arm is so overall pleasing. Rest of barrel and rear sight are a smooth bright steel. Bright bands, buttplate, trigger guard and origiinal ram rod. Retains original sling swivels. Bore would clean to fine. Excellent mechanics. Fine oil finished stock with two clear cartouches including that of Erskine S. Allin of Springfield. The 1861 and 1862 dated Springfield Rifle Muskets are hard to find in any condition. They were used and used hard throughout the Civil War! This is a fine, handsome condition specimen.
