Item :	PERCUSSION BOLSTER CONVERSION OF VERY RARE US NAVY MODEL 1808 PISTOL BY SIMEON NORTH

.64 Caliber Smoothbore US Naval Single Shot Pistol. 10 1/4 Inch round barrel. 5 1/4 Inch lock has most of a Federal period lock at the center and 60% of Simeon North's Berlin, Conn. Address to the rear of the hammer. Pistol has been converted by an excellent weld of a flat faced percussion bolster to the barrel. This is not a patent breech although the work is as good as one. Military percussion hammer has five or six coarse lines of checkering on the thumb piece. Inside of lock and belt hook are numbered "33". Simeon North's assembly marks, "OO" in this case are on the brass side plate. Handsome brass furniture on pommel, trigger guard and ram rod pipe. Lock holds on full cock but in a pistol this rare, who cares? Stock is very good for 200 years. Cracked at wrist but has not opened. Replacement sliver at right of muzzle extends from nothing 3 inches in to 1/4 wid at the muzzle. Ash or hickory ram rod is old but probably not original to this piece. I like the bolster conversion with the real high fence and the coarse hatched hammer. Really rare American Pistol.
