WINCHESTER, VIRGINIA "SCHOOL" KENTUCKY LONG RIFLE
Description :
.50 Caliber rifle. 43 Inch octagon barrel. Brass blade front sight, simple post rear. Barrel shows signs of restoration at the breech. Some markings have been removed. Reconversion from percussion using a high quality reproduction flint lock. Adjustable, double set triggers. Fine brass triggerguard and openwork brass 4-piece patchbox. Brass oval at the thumb, "Star" on the cheek rest. Adequate bore, fine mechanics. The owner was told this was of the John Lauck of Winchester "School" of Rifle makers. I see nothing to dispute this. The stock is a handsome piece of tiger striped maple. Ash ram rod. The forend shows considerable restoration but is a perfect match.
