Item :	RARE US SURCHARGED FRENCH M1766 FLINTLOCK MUSKET BY CHARLEVILLE

.69 Caliber French Manufactured Smoothbore Flintlock Military Musket. One of the thousands sent over during the American Revolution by the French Government in supportof The American Cause. Dark brown, untouched Attic Patina overall. 44 1/2 Inch barrel has the "D" Charleville marking 1 1/2 inch from the breech. Bayonet lug at top of muzzle. 6 1/4 Inch flat lock has all original parts. "Charleville" just visible under iron pan. Co-joined "US" stamped at the rear of the lock. Frizzen has been re-shoed by an arsenal. Mechanics are adequate. Bore is as dark as rest of musket. Trigger guard, buttplate, bands, original ram rod are all a deep, deep brown. Both sling swivels and their posts have been removed centuries ago. Dry but solid walnut stock has usual dings but is complete with no damage. Someone or an arsenal has put an tilted "US" on the left flat. May be an old inked or branded cartouche. This is a very historic piece. These are the firearms we won our independence with and later adopted as the standard US Musket when we strted making M1795's at Springfield and HArpers Ferry. All original and untouched.
