ANTIQUE, WINCHESTER MODEL 1885 LOW WALL RIFLE, .32 LONG

This is an original, Winchester Model 1885 Low Wall Rifle manufactured in 1890 and chambered for the .32 Long cartridge. I assume that this is the .32 Long Colt cartridge, as the .32 S&W long had not been invented at the time this rifle was made. The Low Wall is a single-shot, falling block rifle that was available in a variety of calibers, barrel weights, and barrel lengths. This rifle has an octagonal, 26-inch, Number 1 barrel, which was the lightest weight. This rifle is in very good to fine condition. The factory blued and cased colors have mostly turned a smooth brown. Some color remains in protected areas. This rifle has excellent mechanics with tight lock up. The bore is good. It looks like there is a little erosion of the throat area and first inch or two of the bore. The rifling is strongly visible along the bore's length. The stock is in fine condition with just a few small dings from use. The forearm has a Schnabel tip with an ebony insert. Stock no. 32871
