Item :	HARPERS FERRY MODEL 1816 U.S. FLINTLOCK MUSKET, .69 CALIBER

This is an original, Model 1816 U.S. Flintlock Musket manufactured at Harpers Ferry Armory. Harpers Ferry made these from 1816 to 1844 with over 350,000 produced. Most were converted to percussion, making original flint muskets quite scarce. This musket has a lock plate dated 1831 and the barrel tang is dated 1844. The 1844 date places it in the very last group of M1816 muskets assembled at Harpers Ferry. This musket is in fine condition. It is finished in Armory Brown and about 70-80% of that finish remains. Traces of cased color remain on the lock plate. The brass pan has a nice dark bronze patina. There are a few small spots of dark patina in places. There is some fine pitting on the rear barrel band. The mechanics are excellent. The gun has a fine bore, mostly smooth with a few small pits. The stock is very good with a scattering of small dings from use. There is a visible inspector's cartouche on the left flat of the stock. Most of the small parts of the gun are stamped with the number "8". Very few of these have survived with the Armory Brown finish remaining. Stock no. 32700
