This is an original, WWII, Model 620 Riot Gun made by Savage/Stevens. It is a 12 gauge shotgun with a 20-inch barrel. Savage bought Stevens in 1920 and introduced the Model 620 in 1927. During WWII, the Ordnance Department standardized the Model 620A and purchased 12,174 of them during the war. This production was spread over three types- Trench Guns, Riot Guns, and Training Guns. For some reason, Savage marked the receivers of these military guns as Model 620 when in fact they are Model 620A, a slightly improved variant. This shotgun is in very good condition. Both the receiver and the barrel group are marked with the Flaming Ordnance Bomb and a "P" proof. That said, the serial number of the barrel group does NOT match the receiver number. They must have gotten swapped at an armory somewhere. The gun retains about 70% of its wartime blued finish with some overall wear from handling. There are also a number of small scratches and dings in the finish from use. These are heavier on the left side of the frame. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is in good condition with a scattering of small dings and scratches from use. The checkering on the pistol grip is significantly worn from use. The checkering on the left side of the grip is almost completely worn off. There is a small hole on the bottom of the butt stock where a sling swivel was mounted. The fit of the butt plate is fairly crude, indicating a possible replacement. Still, this is a wartime production riot gun with Ordnance markings. Stock no. 32503
