Description :

|
Here is an original, 1st Model Allin Conversion Model 1865 Rifle chambered for the .58 caliber rimfire cartridge. Designed by Springfield Armory Master Armorer Erskine S. Allin, these rifles were converted from U.S. Model 1861 Rifle-Muskets in 1865. Total production was just 5,000 rifles. This was the very first trapdoor rifle. All subsequent variations would be centerfire. This rifle is in very fine to excellent condition. The metal surfaces are excellent with the barrel and mountings remaining armory bright. The lock and breech retain nearly 100% of their cased color. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The stock is very fine. The Inspector cartouches are visible but faint, indicating that the stock may have been very lightly sanded at one time. Included is an original, U.S. Model 1855 bayonet in fine condition. It is mostly bright with a scattering of brown patina. A first Model Allin Conversion is a rare gun in any condition. They are almost non-existent in this condition. Stock no. 32457
