Item :	EXCELLENT, CIVIL WAR, 2ND MODEL MAYNARD CARBINE, .50 CALIBER

This is an original, Civil War 2nd Model Maynard Cavalry Carbine manufactured by the Massachusetts Arms Company of Chicopee Falls, Massachusetts. Also known as the Model 1863, the Maynard was a breech loading, percussion arm of .50 caliber. About 20,202 2nd Model Maynard Carbines were produced from 1863-1865. Cavalry units known to have been issued the Maynard were the 9th and 11th Indiana and the 11th Tennessee. This carbine is in antique excellent condition. The barrel retains about 98% of its factory blued finish with a couple of specks and one small, rubbed spot. The frame retains nearly all of its cased color. there is a little wear on the left side from the sling ring friction. The upper tang has some speckling and has faded to gray. The lever has some finish wear and some brown speckling. The butt plate has faded to gray. The carbine has excellent mechanics and an excellent bore. The stock is in fine condition with a few small dings from use or storage. there are two crisp cartouches on the left wrist of the stock. The Maynard had a reputation for accuracy, and this is a great example. Stock no. 32265
