This is an original, Civil War, Confederate Carbine made at Richmond Armory in 1863. It is a percussion arm with a 25" barrel and a third sling swivel screwed into the bottom of the butt stock. These arms were made in Richmond, Virginia on machinery captured at Harpers Ferry in April of 1861. Intended for Cavalry, the carbine was the shortest of the C.S. Richmond arms. This one is in very good condition. It has an overall mottled steel gray and brown patina. There is some pitting around the bolster and a few small dings on the barrel. The brass butt plate and nose cap have a nice, dark, yellow bronze patina. The mechanics are excellent with the C.S. Richmond marked lock working very well. The bore is in fine condition with a few dark speckles, but strong rifling along the bore's length. It is interesting to contrast the Confederate rifling to that done at Springfield Armory! The stock is in very good condition with a scattering of small dings, scratches, and gouges from use. Included is a linen canvas sling. It appears to be an original, Confederate sling, but I can't be 100% certain. It has a combination of hand and machine stitching and is in very good condition with some soiling. The arms produced in Richmond saw hard service and are often beat to death. This is a nice example. Stock no. 32269
