|
Here is an original Model 1864 Joslyn Cavalry Carbine manufactured in 1864 and chambered for the .52 Rimfire cartridge. Made by the Joslyn Fire Arms Company of Stonington, Connecticut, the breech loading Joslyn was one of the more widely used carbines of the War. The first Joslyns were delivered early in the war and deliveries continued into 1865. Cavalry Regiments known to have received the Joslyn were the 4th and 8th Indiana, the 19th New York, the 13th Tennessee, the 9th Pennsylvania, the 3rd West Virginia, the 2nd Wisconsin, the 1st Nebraska, the 1st Nevada, and the 11th Ohio. This carbine is in very fine condition to excellent condition. It retains more than 90% of its factory blued finish. There is some finish loss on the trigger guard. There are some small dings and dents on the right side of the barrel behind the front sight blade. the lock and breech block retain about 90% of their cased color with some light finish loss on the breech and some brown spotting on the hammer spur. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The bore is bright and shiny with strong rifling. The stock is very fine, as well, with a few small dings and scratches from use or storage. There are two strong inspector's cartouches on the left flat of the stock. This is an outstanding example of a Model 1864 Joslyn. Stock no. 32260
