This is an original, U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Musket made at Harpers Ferry National Armory in 1820. Harpers Ferry produced over 350,000 of these between 1816 and 1844. This is an earlier musket from the first production group, known as a Type I. It has a one-piece trigger guard with a separate lug for the rear sling swivel. This musket is in very good condition with an overall dark brown patina. There is fine pitting overall giving the gun a textured patina. There is some live rust on the heel of the butt plate. The brass pan has a dark bronze patina. The musket works well mechanically. The bore is dark and heavily pitted. The stock is very good with some small dings from use. There are some spots in the finish on the left side of the butt that may be from mildew. There is a visible cartouche on the left flat of the stock. The retaining spring for the lower barrel band has broken off and is missing. This is a nice untouched example of an early Harpers Ferry Flintlock musket. Stock no. 32279
