Item :	FINE, CIVIL WAR TYPE II MERRILL CARBINE, .54 CALIBER

Here is an original, Civil War, Type II Merrill Breech Loading Carbine. Manufactured by H. Merrill of Baltimore, MD., The Merrill was a single shot, breech loading, percussion carbine of .54 caliber. Over 14,000 Merrill carbines were produced. They are known to have been issued to a number of Union Cavalry Regiments. These include the 1st, 5th, and 18th New York, the 11th, 17th, and 18th Pennsylvania, the 1st New Jersey, the 7th Indiana, the 1st and 3rd Wisconsin, the 27th Kentucky, and the 1st Delaware Cavalry Regiments. This carbine is in fine condition. The barrel remains armory bright. The lock, breech, and breech lever have been cleaned to armory bright, as well. These were originally case colored and none of that color remains. The brass has a nice golden patina. The bore and mechanics are excellent. The bore is shiny with strong rifling. The stock is in fine condition with just a tiny ding or two from use or storage. This is a nice example of the Merrill carbine, a type that saw extensive service in the Civil War. Stock no. 32257
