This is a Japanese Type 32 Cavalry Saber with its original matching scabbard. Also known as the Model 1899, it continued in japanese service until the end of WWII. It was produced in several blade lengths. The "Ko" version had a longer 32.5-inch blade and a leather finger loop to aid in retention while in the saddle. The "Otsu" variant had a shorter 30-inch blade and was intended for use by NCO's in other branches of the military such as the Infantry. There are existing examples with 26-inch blades leading some folks to call these Type 26 swords. This is an Otsu with the 30-inch blade. It is in very fine condition with more than 95% of its factory blued finish remaining on the blade. There is just a little friction rubbing from the scabbard. The hilt has about 60% of the blue remaining with the remainder having turned a smooth brown. The wooden part of the grip is in very fine condition. The scabbard has about 60% of its blued finish remaining with the remainder a brown patina. There are a couple of dents on the back side near the drag. This was often done deliberately to keep the sword from rattling. The drag is stamped with the same number as the sword. This is a very nice example of the Japanese Type 32 Saber. Stock no. 32136
