Item No.: 10692 Price : $895.00
Item : WWII BRITISH LANCHESTER MK.I* SUBMACHINE GUN, NON-FIRING DISPLAY GUN
Description :
This is a WWII British Lanchester Mk.I* Submachine Gun made from original Lanchester parts mounted on a solid, non-functional, dummy receiver. It does not fire and cannot be made to fire. It is purely for display purposes. That said, all parts except the receiver are from an original Lanchester. The bronze magazine housing is nicely marked. The Lanchester was developed after Dunkirk for the Royal Air Force, which had decided that it needed such a gun for airfield defense. The Royal Navy joined the Air Force in the development of the gun and eventually most Lanchesters went to the Navy for naval landing and assault parties. The Sterling Armament Company had a license to manufacture the German MP28 and submitted a gun based on that design. It used the same style butt stock as the No.4, Mk.I SMLE. At the Royal Navy's behest, it also had a bayonet mount for the Pattern 1907 bayonet. It was chambered for the 9mm Parabellum cartridge. Eventually, 81,000 Lanchesters were produced at three different plants. This gun was originally manufactured by Greener (M94 Code). It is in fine condition with about 80% of its black paint-like finish remaining. The stock is an original in very good condition with a scattering of small dings and scratches from use. There is a wooden dowel or something that fills the bore of the barrel. This is a great display piece for a WWII collection. Stock no. 32183
