Description :

|
This is an original, British Flintlock Trade pistol made by T. Ketland of London, England dating to the first quarter of the 19th century. This is a medium-sized pistol with a 7-inch barrel. Pistols like this were common trade items in the North American fur trade. This pistol is in fine condition with an overall steel patina. Some brown is developing on the barrel around the breech. There are some dark speckles on the lock. The brass has a nice golden brass patina. The lock will cock and fire, but there is no half cock notch. It is an earlier lock with no roller on the frizzen. The bore is dark with some rust, particularly on the face of the breech plug. Most of the bore is smooth. The stock is very fine with a few dings and scratches from use. There was an old collection number taped to the left flat of the stock and a couple of tape fragments remain. The initials "WP" are stamped on the left flat, as well. The pistol has a thumb piece but no butt cap. This is a very nice example of an English trade pistol. Stock no. 31175
