WICKHAM U.S. MODEL 1816 FLINTLOCK MUSKET, NEW JERSEY SURCHARGED

This is an original, U.S. Model 1816 Flintlock Musket made by M.T. Wickham of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. It is .69 caliber. Wickham made about 16,600 of these between 1822 and 1837. This musket is in very good condition with an overall mottled patina of steel gray and dark brown. The butt plate was heavily rusted and has a rough dark brown patina with some pitting. The mechanics are excellent. The bore is dark brown and dusty but appears mostly smooth. The stock is in very good condition. There are two large chips around the barrel tang. There is some black iron staining at the end of the butt where the wood meets the butt plate. The barrel has a New Jersey surcharge stamped near the breech. The majority of these were converted to percussion for use in the Civil War. This is a nice untouched example of the Model 1816 Flintlock. Stock no. 29272
