Item :	FINE CONTEMPORARY FLINTLOCK RIFLE, .40 CALIBER

Here is a custom-built, Contemporary Flintlock Rifle of about .40 caliber. It has a 42-inch swamped (tapered and flared) barrel and double set triggers. The barrel is 15/16" at the breech, tapers to about 11/16", and then flares to 3/4". There is no maker's name. This is a no frills, long-hunter's rifle. There are no inlays. There is no patch box. The butt plate and toe plate are simple sheet brass. The rifle is in very fine condition. It retains most of its brown finish with a bit of finish wear on the edges. There are a few tiny dings and scratches on the barrel. The brass is developing some patina. The mechanics are excellent and the lock sparks well. There is a touch hole liner. The bore is excellent. The stock is in fine condition with a few small dings and scratches from use. There is a small dent in the wood on the left side about 10-inches from the muzzle. The stock is curly maple with heavy tiger striping. I am not 100% certain that it isn't a faux finish with the grain applied. This was a common practice on original rifles. If it is faux, it is a fantastic job. This is a great little hunting rifle. Stock no. 31857
