ORIGINAL, CIVIL WAR U.S. NAVY PLYMOUTH RIFLE SABER BAYONET & SCABBARD

This is an original, Civil War Saber Bayonet for the Whitney Model 1861 U.S. Navy Percussion Rifle, more commonly known as the "Plymouth Rifle". This bayonet was made by Collins Cutlery of Hartford, Connecticutt. It has a 22-5/8" double curved saber style blade with a cast brass hilt. These mounted on a lug on the right side of the barrel. This bayonet is in fine condition. The blade has a silver steel patina with an over speckling of fine brown specks. The hilt has a golden brass patina. The spring for the catch remains blue. The bade is marked "Collins"/"HARTFORD"/"CONN". The top of the hilt has the serial number "3823". Included is the original leather scabbard in very good condition. There is a little flaking of the black finish in a couple of places. The stitching remains tight, and the body holds its shape very well. The brass throat and tip have a nice dark bronze patina. This is a scarce original bayonet in good condition. Stock no. 27824
