U.S. MODEL 1906 CAVALRY SABER W/SCABBARD BY AMES

Here is an original, U.S. Model 1906 Cavalry Saber made by the Ames Sword Company in 1906. This was the last curved cavalry saber issued to American troops. It is basically identical to the Civil War Model 1860 Saber except that the guard is made of iron rather than brass. Ames eventually produced 18,961 of these for the U.S. Government. The Model 1906 Scabbard was browned with the bands and rings spaced closer together than on the earlier scabbards. These swords are often encountered in earlier scabbards, but this one is in the correct scabbard. This sword is in fine condition. The blade remains armory bright with a fine speckling of brown patina. The original polish marks remain visible. The ricasso markings are crisp with "A.S. CO." over the Ordnance Bomb over "1906" on the right and "U.S." over "T.H.C." on the left. The guard has turned a deep chocolate brown. The brass wire wrap is complete and tight. The raised areas of the leather between the wire have some surface flaking. The scabbard retains 50-60% of its armory browned finish with surface rusting on the remainder. There is one small dent near the drag. I have seen many more Civil War sabers than I have Model 1906 sabers, the last true Cavalry Saber (Apologies to General Patton!). Stock no. 31783
