This is a Officer's Short Sword dating to the time of the American Revolution. These were commonly called "Hangers" at the time. This sword has a wire wrapped, bone hilt and a flat 27" blade with no fuller. The brass guard has 6 perforations with file work on the edges and some simple engraving. All of these features point to a sword of American manufacture. This sword is in very good condition. The blade has a steel gray and dark brown patina with rust spotting overall. The bone hilt has some cracking and several small chips but is mostly intact. The single wire wrap is complete. The grip is a little loose on the blade tang. The pommel and guard have a nice dark bronze patina. This is a good-looking Revolutionary War sword. Celebrate the 250th Anniversary of the United States with a true piece of her history!
