This is an original, WWII British No.5, Mk.I Short Magazine Lee Enfield Jungle Carbine chambered for the .303 British cartridge. The Jungle carbine was developed as Pacific fighting made evident a need for a shorter, lighter rifle for better mobility in jungle warfare. They were produced from March of 1944 until December of 1947. This is a true Jungle Carbine with the scalloped lightening cuts in the barrel. It is in fair condition. There is light pitting overall. The receiver markings are no longer legible. There is some rust in the bolt crevices and the interior of the receiver. The rifle works well with, miracle of miracles, a matching bolt. The bore is fair. It is a little dark with roughness in the grooves. There are some small pits, but the rifling is strongly visible along the barrel's length. The stock shows heavy use and is in fair condition. there is a moderate scattering of small dings, scratches, and gouges from use. There is a thin crack in the nose running back towards but not reaching the barrel band. The font sling swivel is missing. This is a battered old Warhorse, but a true Jungle Carbine. Stock no. 31768
