This is an original, U.S. Model 1903 Rifle chambered for the .30-06 cartridge. This is a late production rifle made at Springfield Armory in 1928. The '03 was the standard U.S. battle rifle of WWI. It continued in service right through the end of WWII. Many of the rifles produced between the World Wars would see use with the U.S. Marine Corps in the early Pacific battles of WWII. This rifle is in fine condition with about 90% of its factory blued finish remaining. The bolt and bolt handle have been polished bright, and the cocking knob is parkerized. The bolt has the correct "N.S." marking, but the knob may be a replacement. The butt plate is a Type 4 without a trap. It was for the M1922 rifle. Other than the bolt and butt plate, the remaining parts have nearly all of their blued finish. The rifle has excellent mechanics and a very fine bore with strong rifling. The stock is in fine condition but is a replacement. It is a Rock Island stock with the wrong butt plate. The "D.A.L." inspector's cartouche would be correct for this rifle but not on a Rock Island stock. It has been applied later, and close examination shows it to be a bit crude. So, the stock is not right. Still, this is a nice '03, well worth a search for the correct parts. Stock no. 31767
