Description :
|
Here is an original, Winchester Model 1873 Saddle Ring Carbine manufactured in 1879 and chambered for the .44-40 (.44 WCF) cartridge. This is an early Second Model 1873 with a rail on top of the receiver for the sliding dust cover. The rail is secured by screws. The dust cover retains the checkered oval panel. It has a 20-inch round barrel. This carbine is in very good condition with crisp lines and clear markings. There is little to no original finish remaining, with just faint traces in protected areas. The entire gun has a steel gray patina with some areas developing a light brown color. There is some very fine pitting on the sides of the frame. The action and mechanics work well. The bore is fair. There is some pitting, but the rifling is strongly visible along the barrel's length. The stock is very good with a scattering of small dings and scratches from use. When you hear about the "Gun That Won The West", the '73 Saddle Ring Carbine is the gun that they are talking about! Stock no. 31554
